Details:Time to hit the links…. Hubbard Hill Living Wisdom Community has teamed up with Olympic Gold Medal Speed Skater, Dan Jansen to host the 2019 Memories Matter Charity Golf Classic in support of a revolution in memory care on June 10th at Elcona Country Club. The inspirational gold medalist will join area golfers at the event and share his personal story of perseverance, hope, and faith and how dementia has impacted him personally. Proceeds of the event benefit the Hubbard Hill Living Wisdom Center for Dementia Care that will open this summer in Elkhart. In a well-known story of perseverance, Jansen became the American hero of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, breaking world records and taking the gold medal during what some called his last gold medal shot of the games. Jansen was the world sprint champion entering the games and expected to take the gold until tragedy struck in the 1988 games the day before his race when he learned of his sister’s leukemia diagnosis. Later that day he was notified of his sister’s death. He went on to compete in the games, falling in the first turn of the 500-meter race, unable to perform at his best given the tragic news. He was given the US Olympic Spirit Award for his valiant efforts. He competed again in 1992, but still left without a medal until his breakthrough gold medal in 1994. Jansen has a personal connection to this cause, losing his father to Alzheimer’s disease in June of 2015 and is a supporter of efforts to increase awareness of the disease, sharing his own journey. Hubbard Hill Living Wisdom Community CEO, Patrick Pingel, states, “This will be one of the area’s top charity golf outings of the year. This year’s Memories Matter Charity Golf Classic will be an important milestone for our event. It is an honor to have Dan Jansen’s support in helping us raise awareness for not only dementia but our new memory center that will impact so many lives here in Elkhart County. We look forward to his consistent engagement throughout the summer for our Hubbard Hill Living Wisdom Center for Dementia Care grand opening festivities.” Each golfer that signs up for the Memories Matter Charity Golf Classic receives 18 holes of championship golf at Elcona Country Club, range balls, delicious pre-golf luncheon, along with a gourmet surf and turf awards dinner with celebrity guest Dan Jansen in addition to gift bag with high value tee gifts. The field is limited. In addition, registration closes May 31st.
