SUMMARY:Our Amazing Bodies and How They Work…or Don’t
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that you have bugs in your eyelashes? Do you know how your skin repairs itself? Are heart attacks all the same? How does the body protect itself from outside invasion? These and many other questions will be answered as anatomist Jep Hostetler introduces us to the wonders of the human body. We’ll use informative and instructive visuals and do interactive work as we investigate the five senses and the twelve cranial nerves. Come and wonder as we wander through the body. We know Dr. Hostetler as a humorist and a magician\, and he combines that with his 30 years of teaching human anatomy at The Ohio State University\, College of Medicine. \nApril 4\, 6\, 11\, 13 | 10 – 11:30 a.m. also offered via Zoom

SUMMARY:Into the Whirlwind: The Arts\, Faith\, and Transcendence
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered what it is about art (music\, theatre\, dance\, film\, visual art) that grabs our attention and gives us an uplifting feeling? “Into the Whirlwind” explores why and how the arts do that. This series will explore something we all value: creativity. And examine how creativity is the key to working together\, enjoying our common humanity\, and experiencing Divine presence. I will not break things down into the categories of ‘sacred and profane’ but how many art works have a transcendent value. Lauren Friesen is David M. French Professor Emeritus\, University of Michigan. \nMay 9\, 10\, 11\, 12 | 2 – 3:30 p.m. also offered via Zoom

SUMMARY:Summer Serenade with Carrie Newcomer
DESCRIPTION:Elkhart Civic Theatre is bringing singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer to the Wellfield. Newcomer has come a long way since her childhood in Elkhart. The recording artist\, poet\, author\, and educator has been described as a “prairie mystic” by the Boston Globe and one who “asks all the right questions” by Rolling Stone Magazine. She has also written three books of poetry and essays. Carrie’s song\, “I Should’ve Known Better\,” appeared on Nickel Creeks’ Grammy-winning album This Side\, and she earned an Emmy for her PBS special “An Evening with Carrie Newcomer.”\nCarrie’s first musical\, Betty’s Diner: The Musical\, was produced in 2015 by her alma mater\, Purdue University. As an undergrad\, she also attended Ball State University and Goshen College\, which awarded Carrie an honorary degree in Music for Social Change.
